The TG-10D (Blanik L-33 Solo) is a conventional one-place medium performance sailplane used by 94 FTS Advanced Programs for cross-country training. Glider cross-country soaring competitions are flown at the regional and national level in the TG-10D.
Features
The LETECKÉ ZÁVODY Aircraft Corporation (LET) of Kunovice, Czech Republic manufactures the L-33 Solo (Air Force designation TG-10D). It is an all-metal, one-seat, self-supporting, mid-winged glider with a fixed main and tail-wheel. The canopy is a one-piece design, allowing for excellent visibility. The aircraft is equipped with a radio and basic flight instruments. Advanced glide computer and a secure GPS Flight recorder are also maintained in each aircraft. These sailplanes are optimized for cross-country and wave flying and are equipped with oxygen.
Background
The TG-10D aircraft was procured from LET via Blanik America Corporation Fall 2001 and the first delivery was in May 2002. The TG-10D replaced the aging TG-3 fleet that has served the Academy Cross-Country Soaring Team well for many years.
In the hands of an accomplished soaring pilot, the TG-10D can stay aloft for over 6 hours in thermal or mountain wave lift, and can fly several hundred miles from its home airport for sport or competition.
