The TG-10C (Blanik L-13AC) is a conventional two-place tandem sailplane. It is used by the 94 FTS for specialized upgrade training to include spin and aerobatic training. Competition aerobatics are flown at the regional and national level in the TG-10C.
Features
The TG-10C is one of the world's most common initial soaring trainers. The LETECKÉ ZÁVODY Aircraft Corporation (LET) of Kunovice, Czech Republic manufactures the L-13AC (Air Force designation TG-10C). It is an all-metal, two-seat, self-supporting, high-winged glider with a retractable main wheel and a castering tail-wheel. The canopy is a one-piece design, allowing for excellent visibility. The tandem cockpit has dual flight controls. The radios and basic flight instruments are mounted in both cockpits. It is certified as an aerobatic glider.
Background
The TG-10C aircraft was procured from LET via Blanik America Corporation Fall 2001 and the first delivery was in May 2002. The TG-10C replaced the aging TG-9 fleet that has served the Academy Aerobatic Team well for many years. The TG-10 aircraft were purchased as a family of similar aircraft with the intent of making upgrade to different aircraft easy. The TG-10C has reduced the number of flights required to upgrade into an Advanced Program by 25 sorties per pilot.
It is capable of performing basic aerobatic maneuvers including: Chandelle, Lazy Eight, Loop, Cloverleaf, Immelmann, Split-S, Cuban Eight, Reverse Cuban, Inverted Flight, Barrel Roll, Hammerhead, and Slow Roll. In addition, it is the Academy's primary spin trainer. The TG-10C routinely competes at regional and national competitions across the country.
