July 2009

Dear parents, family and friends, on behalf of the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School staff and faculty, I would like to welcome you to your United States Air Force Academy, the premier center of excellence in developing Officers of Character. Your son or daughter is about to take the first step in a rewarding and challenging career in service to our nation. All of us share in your pride and excitement as we welcome 240 cadet candidates from across the country into the Preparatory School. While the entire staff is singularly dedicated to preparing them for the Academy, we certainly understand that their values, characteristics, and motivation are a reflection of what you have taught them. Thank you.

Today’s global environment is a demanding one filled with challenges and opportunities for our nation. Our young men and women must be prepared to face this global environment with the skills and confidence needed to succeed. Our mission at the Preparatory School is to develop and hone these skills through a challenging academic, character development, military and athletic program. I’m confident that your son or daughter will leave the Preparatory School ready for the Air Force Academy and poised to continue their development as Officers of Character ready to face any challenge in service to our nation.

Cadet candidate success is a team effort not just encompassing faculty and students, but also family and friends whose continued support is absolutely essential. As parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends you are also a part of the Preparatory School family. If there is anything that the staff or I can do to answer any question or provide any assistance, please let us know.

While the year here at the Preparatory School will seem to fly by, its impact in building a solid foundation for success is long lasting. The friends that your Husky will meet in the coming year are those that will last a lifetime. It is certainly a very challenging program; but also one that is rewarding and fun. I look forward to meeting each of you in watching your sons and daughters succeed.

Colonel Todd Zachary
Commander
