USAFA Parents' Weekend 2015
2-7 September 2015


Parents' Weekend information will be e-mailed to parents/guests who register on the Parents' Weekend Registration site via link located in the left hand column of this page (available June 2015). Information includes the Parents' Weekend brochure, schedule of events, Superintendent welcome letter and parking pass. All items may be printed at home. If you are not able to print the items, please ask your cadet to print the documents and send them to you or provide them upon your arrival. All documents may also be downloaded from this website here. Please make sure to coordinate your visit with your cadet, as he/she may need to pick up tickets for various events.

Shuttle buses will operate from visitor parking lots on Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., transporting guests to and from the various events within the Cadet Area. Guests are also welcome to walk from the parking areas. Buses will stop at designated bus stops (identified by signs and benches). No shuttles will run during the weekend.  If you have a handicapped placard from your state, please bring it with you so you can access the handicapped parking area.

Opportunity for new cadet parents to get an overview of USAFA programs from senior staff, including the Superintendent, Commandant of Cadets, Dean of the Faculty, Athletic Director and Admissions Director. Q&A session will follow presentations. All cadet parents/guests are welcome to attend.

8:15-9:00 a.m. Cadet Aviation Capabilities Exercise (CAPEX) and Pre-Parade Demonstrations.
Watch the USAFA Wings of Blue parachute team, your National Champion glider team and Air Force Academy powered flight aircraft as they demonstrate the various cadet-led aviation and leadership programs that are offered to your cadets during their four years at USAFA.
Stillman Parade Field
9:00–10:00 a.m.
Cadet Wing Parade.
MANDATORY FOR ALL CADETS. At the parade, the 2015 Distinguished Service Award will be presented. Cadets will be released on the field to meet their guests.

10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Parents' Weekend Information Fair.
Arnold Hall will open at 7:00 a.m. and the Info Fair will open at 10:00 a.m. In the morning, breakfast items will be available and we invite you to enjoy our new coffee shop, Polaris Perk! The Info Fair offers valuable information and giveaways from USAFA and cadet organizations and the opportunity to stop by and speak with many Parents Club representatives. Purchase BCT videos and cadet "Warrior" photos and preorder your BCT yearbook. Stop by to have a photo taken with your cadet; portrait sittings are free! Lunch will be available in the Richter Lounge. The BCT video will play in the theater throughout the day. Don't miss this popular event!

10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Basic Cadet Training Video.
Plays continuously in theater. Watch the basic cadets as they learn to become Fourth-Class cadets during Basic Training 2015. After you see this video, go to the Cadet Wing Media booth in the ballroom to purchase your own copy!

10:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. Academic Majors Fair and Presentations.
For 3rd & 4th Class cadets and guests. Visit our Academic Building and talk to faculty about majors. Sessions include demonstrations, refreshments and an opportunity to meet your cadet's faculty. A complete schedule of activities will be published on the USAFA website in July.

Squadron Open Houses.
For 1st and 2nd Class cadets and guests. Don't miss this opportunity to visit your cadet's dormitory and meet his/her Squadron leadership.

10:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. Air Warfare Lab (AWL) Open House.
Tour the AWL and watch an air power lesson unfold in a demonstration of USAFA's flight simulators.

10:30–11:15 a.m. Vital Effective Character Through Observation and Reflection (VECTOR) Program Orientation.
A parent orientation to the cadet character seminar VECTOR (Vital Effective Character Through Observation and Reflection), which all cadets will take during their freshman year at USAFA. Parents may attend either morning or afternoon session.

MANDATORY FOR ALL FOURTH-CLASS CADETS. 4th-Class Cadets may purchase up to 3 guest tickets from 18-21 Aug 14. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 7:00 a.m. on Mon, 24 Aug 15 on the Mitchell Hall Staff Tower. Cadets do not require tickets.

Open houses include demonstrations, refreshments and an opportunity to meet your cadet's faculty. Also, learn about career paths across the Air Force. A complete schedule of activities will be published on the USAFA website in July.

For 3rd and 4th Class cadets and guests. Don't miss this opportunity to visit your cadet's dormitory and meet his/her Squadron leadership.

USAFA Airfield Open House.
Guests must be escorted by their cadet. Come view static displays of USAFA aircraft and parachuting equipment and visit with the staff of the 306th Flying Training Group.

1:30–2:15 p.m. Cadet Performance Showcase.
Come to the Information Fair, pick up some lunch, then stick around to watch performances from the Cadet Show Choir, Cadet Orchestra, Saber Drill Team and the Cadet Chorale.

8:00 – 10:00 p.m. USAFA Observatory Open House.
Open to cadets and their visitors. The USAFA Physics and Astronomy Club invites you to view the night sky through our 24" telescope! Tour the facility, see images taken on our telescope, use it to explore your universe first hand (weather permitting) and hear some of the incredible history and lore behind the constellations that can be seen from our vantage point, 7,258 feet above sea level! NOTE:  This event may be cancelled if poor viewing conditions exist.  Signs will be posted at bus stops and at Arnold Hall.

For tickets, call the USAFA Athletic Ticket Office at (800) 666-8723 or (719) 472-1895 or purchase tickets on line at http://www.goairforcefalcons.com/tickets/afa-tickets.html. Cadets do not need to purchase tickets, must attend the game, and sit with the Cadet Wing.
Falcon Stadium
4:00 p.m. Cadets may depart Falcon Stadium after the third verse of the Air Force Song at the conclusion of the football game. They are released to spend the rest of the weekend with their adult guests and must sign in by Monday, 7:00 p.m. (11:00 p.m. for Firsties)

The Jacks Valley orientation tour from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. offers you the opportunity to visit the site of the Basic Cadet Training (BCT) field training exercises. Your cadet must escort you during this tour. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring clear, unopened water bottles. No privately owned vehicles are allowed in Jacks Valley. Buses will depart for Jacks Valley from the Cadet Field House parking lot every 15 minutes, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The last bus will depart for Jacks Valley at 1:30 p.m., and the last bus will depart Jacks Valley at 2:30 p.m.
