USAFA Parents' Weekend 2013

Parents' Weekend information will be e-mailed to parents/guests who register on the Parents' Weekend Registration site via link located in the left hand column of this page (available beginning 15 July 2013). Information includes the Parents' Weekend brochure, schedule of events, Superintendent letter and parking pass. All items may be printed at home. If you are not able to print the items, please ask your cadet to print the documents and send them to you or provide them upon your arrival. All documents may also be downloaded from this website here. Please make sure to coordinate your visit with your cadet, as he/she may need to pick up tickets for various events.

Please do not bring backpacks or large bags to the base. If you have a handicapped placard from your state, please bring it with you so you can access the handicapped parking area.

8:30–9:30 a.m. VECTOR Program Orientation. An interactive parent orientation to the cadet character seminar VECTOR (Vital Effective Character Through Observation and Reflection), which all cadets will take during their freshman year at USAFA. Arnold Hall Banquet Room
10:00–11:00 a.m.
Cadet Wing Parade. Arrive early to see demonstrations by the USAFA Falconers and the Saber Drill Team.

Fourth-Class Luncheon. MANDATORY FOR ALL FOURTH-CLASS CADETS. Cadets must purchase tickets for their guests..

11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m. Cadet Performance Showcase. Come visit the Information Fair, pick up some lunch, then stick around to watch performances from the Cadet Show Choir, Cadet Orchestra and other performing groups. Arnold Hall Ballroom
12:00–6:00 p.m.
Airfield Open House. Visit the USAF Academy airfield to see aircraft displays and talk with staff about flying programs. Guests must be escorted by their cadet. USAFA Airfield
1:00–3:00 p.m. Athletics Open House.   Come visit the Cadet Field House, Hall of Excellence at the Falcon Athletic Center and the Cadet Gymnasium.  Meet the Athletics staff and learn all about the many athletics programs available at USAFA! Field House, Cadet Gym, Falcon Athletic Center
1:00–2:00 p.m. Academic Advising and First-Year Programs Informational Session.  Learn about academic advising and other first-year programs that support our 4-degree cadets as they transition to the rigorous academic environment of USAFA. Arnold Hall Banquet Room

4:00–5:30 p.m. Squadron Open Houses. MANDATORY FOR FOURTH-CLASS CADETS. Each squadron will host an open house in the cadet dormitories, Sijan and Vandenberg Halls. If the cadet parade is cancelled, some squadrons may hold their open house earlier in the day (10:00 – 11:30 a.m.).  Check with your cadet for more information. Vandenberg and Sijan Halls

7:00 – 10:00 p.m USAFA Observatory Open House. The USAFA Physics and Astronomy Club invites you to come view the night sky through our 24” telescope!  You will have the opportunity to tour the facility, see images taken on our own 24 inch telescope, use the telescope to explore your universe first hand (weather permitting) and hear some of the incredible history and lore behind the constellations that can be seen from our vantage point, 7258 feet above sea level! USAFA Home Football Game vs. Colgate University. For tickets, call the USAFA Athletic Ticket Office at (800) 666-8723 or (719) 472-1895 or you may purchase tickets on line at Cadets do not need to purchase tickets and must attend the game, sitting with the Cadet Wing. Falcon Stadium
5:00 p.m. Cadets may depart Falcon Stadium after the third verse of the Air Force Song at the conclusion of the football game. They are released to spend the rest of the weekend with their adult guests and must sign in by Monday, 7:50 p.m. (11:00 p.m. for Firsties)
