New Security Requirements for Parents' Weekend 2011
The Academy has released new security guidelines for visitors to USAFA. Please see information provided on the USAFA home page at http://www.usafa.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123254309. You may also review base access information located here. Please note that all non-DOD ID card holders should plan to enter the base through the North Gate for all Parents' Weekend activities. Tailgating is not permitted in the Field House or Cadet Area parking lots at any time during Parents’ Weekend.  We appreciate your assistance in ensuring sufficient parking is available for all cadet guests.

Academic Department Open Houses
The Dean of the Faculty will be hosting department open houses throughout Fairchild Hall on Friday of Parents' Weekend. See the full schedule of events here. Please remember that you must be escorted by your cadet at all times.

Parking Notice for Parents' Weekend 2011
All cadet vehicles will be required to move from the cadet parking lots and the upper Vandenberg parking lots prior to 1900 hrs, Wednesday, 31 August 2011, in order to provide sufficient parking for cadet guests during Parents' Weekend activities. If your parents will be using a cadet vehicle during Parents Weekend, please ensure they use the parking pass when parking in any of the Cadet Area lots. Thank you for your support and adherence to this policy.

Parents' Weekend Information
Parents' Weekend information will be e-mailed to parents/guests who register via the Parents' Weekend Registration page located on the left side of the homepage. Note that registration IS NOT REQUIRED but is simply a service to provide you some important information. Information includes the Parents' Weekend handout, schedule of events, Superintendent letter and parking pass. All items may be printed at home. If you are not able to print the items or do not have access to the internet, please ask your cadet to print the documents and send them to you or provide them upon your arrival. Please make sure to coordinate your visit with your cadet.

The base is currently open to visitors so you should have no difficulty getting on base to meet your cadet. You will be asked to show either a DOD ID card or your driver's license upon entry to the base - you may also have your vehicle searched. If you have a handicapped placard from your state, please bring it with you so you can access the handicapped parking area (immediately north of Stillman Parade Field).

Parents' Weekend Security Procedures
You may be asked to show proof of insurance, a valid vehicle registration and a photo ID. If you are driving a rental car, please keep the rental agreement and current proof of insurance in the vehicle at all times. Guests may ride the shuttles or walk into the Cadet Area but must be escorted by a cadet or military member to enter the Terrazzo or any of the academic buildings or dormitories.

All vehicles entering the base are subject to inspection by security personnel. Guests should refrain from bringing large bags, coolers, thermoses, backpacks or other items that will require additional scrutiny or searches from security personnel.

Please make sure to follow all posted speed limits when driving on the base.  Note that seatbelts must be worn by all vehicle occupants at all times when driving on the Academy. Drivers may not use hand-held cellular phones while the vehicle is in motion.  If you need to make or take a call, please use a hands-free device or pull to the side of the road.  Also, be aware that radar detectors are not permitted on base.  Finally, keep in mind that wildlife such as deer, elk and wild turkeys can be a hazard while driving on the Academy.  Please be alert for them and drive carefully.  Remember, they have the right-of-way!

If Force Protection Conditions (FPCONs) change due to world events or events closer to home, some scheduled events may change or require additional security precautions for the safety of all our guests.  Any event changes will be advertised in local media and on the message boards at both entry gates.
