Description of the
Lab:
The IITA lab is located at the USAF Academy. The hardware, software, and network capabilities available are the latest commercially available products. The lab design is flexible and
can be reconfigured to support the needs of the researcher and to allow for the rapidly evolving developments in information technology.
Operations Concept & Usage:
The primary mission of the lab is to
support research. In order to maintain the integrity of a research lab
environment certain restrictions and guidelines must be established. Use
of the lab for educational and mission applications other than research
will be considered individually on a space available basis.
-
Access:
Use of the resources is limited to USAFA faculty,
staff, cadets and other personnel working on research efforts approved
by IITA. Requests for access are included in the research
Proposal Submission and will be granted or modified during the review and
approval process.
-
Operating Hours:
Normal lab operating hours are 0730-1630 each duty day. However,
with prior approval it can be accessible twenty-four hours a
day, seven days a week. Electronic connections to our servers
and network are available around the clock.
-
Security:
The lab will be locked and secured
during non-duty hours. Access is controlled by the
Directorate of Education , Director of Operations (USAFA/DFE) at
719-333-2739. Researchers working in the lab during non-duty hours
will secure the lab when they leave.
-
System Administration and Operation:
Daily administration and
operation of the system to include: password management, user help and
training, software installations, maintenance reporting, etc. are the
responsibilities of the USAFA/DFE Systems Analyst at 719-333-3977.
-
Lab Scheduling:
The lab and its resources are available for
research on a walk-in basis by approved users. Requests for exclusive
use will be considered on an individual basis if included in the
initial
Proposal Submission.
Please outline the reason, dates and times exclusive use is required,
and any additional support required. A lab master schedule is
maintained to show those times when the lab is reserved.
Configuration Management:
The various components of the system
will be evaluated on a regular basis by a Lab Configuration Management
Board (LCMB) consisting of the IITA staff, Lab Director and DFE System
Analyst. The CMB will convene at least semi-annually, to ensure the
available capabilities stay abreast of current generation technologies
and to maintain the integrity of the system.
System Upgrades:
Requirements to support specific, approved
research (software, ancillary equipment, etc.) should be outlined in the
initial research proposal. Major upgrades or modifications to the system
will be subject to review by the IITA steering committee.
All system
components procured using IITA funds are the property of IITA and can
be made available to other IITA researchers following the completion of
a research project. Requests for exception to this policy should be
outlined in the initial project proposal and approved by the Director,
IITA.
