Project Name: AIT and Satellite Tracking of Airdropped Cargo Description: Initial surveys of Army & AF units reveal the DOD may benefit from the capability to track, locate, & identify contents of airdropped cargo. This enablement project will incorporate the Blue Force Tracking system, RFID, & current internet technologies to demonstrate the ability to track, locate, & provide content data, on an internet-based unified Common Operating Picture. The objective is to do this with individual airdropped cargo anywhere on the earth’s surface. The project will be divided into four phases, each phase a pre-requisite for the next. The final phase is a real-world airdrop mission tracked by external stakeholders worldwide. Cargo loaded on aircraft will be tracked from takeoff to the ultimate airdropped landing location in real-time. Timeline: The project begins 1 April 2009.
