The Research and Learning Division encourages faculty and cadet research through coursework and publication opportunities. Faculty and cadet research is critical to intellectual development, course relevance, and staying connected and credible in our field of study. For cadets, learning and practicing the process of research in effect teaches them to become independent learners and critical thinkers (i.e., learn how to ask good questions, learn where to go for answers, learn how to tell the difference between good and bad answers, and develop the capability to grapple with multiple possible answers).
The Learning Laboratories focus upon active learning and application of context and theory in a simulated environment. Our learning laboratories include the Warfare Simulation Lab, Aair Warfare Lab, Space Operations Lab, and in the future, a Command and Control Laboratory. These laboratories support all courses in DFMI and in other academic departments across the Dean of Faculty.
