Outstanding Academy Educator

The Outstanding Academy Educator (OAE) Award is presented annually to recognize one instructor in the Department of Military Strategic Studies who, by personal example and performance, best characterizes the principles of excellence in education. This individual is considered the best of the best in the areas of teaching skills/innovation in the classroom, curriculum and course development, publications or presentations, supervision, positive attitude/image, impact on the USAFA mission, and contributions above and beyond, including community and cadet service.

Philip D. Caine Award

The Philip D. Caine Award is presented to the most outstanding instructor in each MSS core courses, MSS 100 and MSS 400. Winners have demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction, course involvement and responsibilities, course-focused research, and professional attitude/image. Additionally, winners must demonstrate enthusiasm for the subject content, superb classroom organizational skills, portray a commanding image, and connect with the students.

Dorn Award for Research

The Department of Military Strategic Studies, Allen E. Dorn award winner, is selected from researchers across the department ,based upon achievement in excellence, breadth, and integration into the discipline of research accomplished during the current academic year. Criteria for selection include completion of published articles, book chapters, national conference presentations, invited guest speaker invitations, conference organizing, etc.

Outstanding Cadet in Military & Strategic Studies

This award recognizes outstanding achievement in the MSS (Military Strategic Studies) area of study. This award is presented annually at the Individual Awards Ceremony during graduation week. To be considered, first class cadets must either major or minor in either the discipline or division and meet the minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80, Major GPA of 3.0, and and MPA of 2.75. Generally, at least 10 cadets compete for this award. Congratulations to our 2002-2003 winner!

Bleckley & Goettler
Outstanding Instructor in Major and Elective Courses

Each year the Military Operations Division recognizes one individual Harold E. Goettler Award, Outstanding Aviation Instructor; and the r.Winners have demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction, course involvement and responsibilities, course-focused research, and professional attitude/image. Additionally, winners must demonstrate enthusiasm for the subject content, superb classroom organizational skills, portray a commanding image, and connect with the students.

DFMI Annual Award Winners

Each year individuals across the department are selected for their outstanding performance and contributions, above and beyond what is considered their normal responsibilities. These individuals are recognized by the appropriate DoD category within which their position falls. individuals may be honored in the categories of General Schedule 1-8, Professional, Company Grade Officer and Field Grade Officer.
