Visual Flight Simulator
In the Fall of 2001 the Department of Military Strategic Studies (MSS) began pursuing the replacement of the aging T-4s with modern, computer-enhanced simulators. After reviewing proposals from several firms offering a variety of Aircrew Training Devices the contract was awarded to Frasca International of Urbana, Illinois. MSS has purchased eight of the T241 with plans to purchase four more for a total of twelve projected simulators.
The T241 represents a significant leap forward both in terms of technology and educational productivity. For the first time, the T241 provides cadets with 120 degree visual displays of their environment. Additionally, each simulator unit is able to interact realtime with other units via simulated radio communications and realtime visual representation of the other aircraft. Updated mapping is planned to provide opportunities to cadet to experience multiple terrain and environments.

Aviation Flight Trainer Facility
Military Strategic Studies boasts a state-of-the-art computer facility supporting flight simulation programs designed to introduce cadets to basic flight maneuvering concepts. The Aviation Flight Trainer (AFT) has 24 separate computer stations affording application laboratories in Military Strategic Studies (MSS).

-
The AFT enhances aviation instruction by letting cadets fly a simulated Beachcraft Bonanza across almost any route in virtually any part of the world. Each station includes a console to tune radios and operate the instruments, yoke or joystick, rudder pedals, and computer screen for instrumentation, planning and visual displays. The system provides realistic simulation of instrument flying conditions and is used to teach the concepts of instrument crosscheck, IFR flight rules, checklist discipline, and cross country navigation.
