The Applications Division is focused where the, ‘…..rubber meets the road’. Col Drohan described MSS as the ‘Context theory and application of military power’, (Drohan and Farquhar “What Is Military Strategic Studies?” 26 Jun 2007) . The Applications Division provides the application aspect of this field of study. It examines tactical scenarios and timeless aviation fundamentals to best understand how to exploit air power in a dynamic and changing conflict environment. This division synthesizes and applies knowledge introduced in the strategy and operational concepts divisions. The Applications Division mission is:
... enhance learning in the application of air, space and cyberspace power |
To accomplish its mission, the Applications Division provides the "hands-on" application of military power, involving much “learning by doing”. Cadets take previously learnt strategies and learn how these are applied in the real world. Not restricted to, but somewhat concentrating on Air Power, cadets have the opportunity to fly T-41 sorties and participate in many simulators. The sharp end of military theory the Division goals are:
1. School cadets in skills and knowledge of the application of air, space and cyberspace power.
2. Allow cadets to comprehend how the application of air and space power (skills) integrates and compliments the theory and strategy (knowledge) of air power.
3. Provide a link between intellectual understanding and real world military operations.
