Military Openings
The Department of Management is seeking energetic, intelligent, and hard-working individuals from all commissioning sources with demonstrated records of superior performance. Please pay special attention to the deadlines below to apply for these military openings. There are three ways to teach at the AF Academy: 1) USAFA Faculty Pipeline Masters Degree, 2) USAFA Faculty Pipeline Doctorate Degree, or 3) Direct-Hire.
USAFA Instructor Faculty Pipeline (USAFA FP) – Deadline 31 May:
Are you interested in getting your Masters Degree or PhD full-time with a follow-on assignment at the AF Academy teaching cadets? If so, the USAFA FP is for you. Every year the Department of Management sponsors qualified military officers for full-time Masters or Doctorate degrees at AACSB Accredited institutions. All AFSCs are welcome to apply! You must have a minimum of two years TOS by class start date in order to apply for USAFA FP.
If you are applying for the USAFA FP program, please submit an AF IMT 3849 (PME/AFIT/RTFB Officer Worksheet) by 30 April to AFPC. The AF Form 3849 needs to be signed and emailed by the 1st O-6 in your chain-of-command to AFPC. Please send a signed AF Form 3849 to afpc.dpasf@randolph.af.mil. Please also send a courtesy email copy to the USAFA/DFM Personnel Officer (robert.evert@usafa.edu). USAFA FP applicants must receive a release notification from their AFPC core OAT (Officer Assignment Team) in order to compete. AFPC/DPASF will request release upon receipt of AF Form 3849.
Masters Degree Sponsorship:
Officers will attend the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) or an AFIT/CI-designated AACSB Accredited civilian university for 12 to 18 months to receive a Masters Degree in a discipline consistent with a required professional development. The institution which the officer attends will depend on the degree program for which they are selected. After the degree is obtained, each candidate will complete a follow-on assignment in an instructor position at USAFA for approximately three years. Based on professional development and AF requirements, officers may be required to complete an intervening tour (IOT) prior to beginning their instructor tour.
PhD Sponsorship:
Officers will attend the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) or an AFIT/CI-designated AACSB Accredited civilian university for three years to receive a Doctorate Degree in a discipline consistent with a required professional development. The institution which the officer attends will depend on the degree program for which they are selected. After the degree is obtained, each candidate will complete a follow-on assignment in an instructor position at USAFA for approximately four years. Based on professional development and AF requirements, officers may be required to complete an intervening tour (IOT) prior to beginning their instructor tour.
Officers applying for USAFA PhD sponsorship need to have (1) a previous instructor tour on the Dean of Faculty, (2) currently assigned as an instructor on the Dean of Faculty, or (3) instructed at another AF institution like AFIT or Air University in order to qualify.
