Biography
William W. Jennings is Professor of Finance and Investments at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Dr. Jennings is the principal finance educator at the USAF Academy—overseeing instruction to over 1800 students per year. As a senior civilian leader within the Department of Management, he serves in roles analogous to associate dean within a typical business school managing the department’s assessment, strategy, and maintenance of accreditation efforts.
Dr. Jennings research interests focus on investment and portfolio management. Current research projects include asset-liability management and liability-driven investing for mounting post-retirement health-care expenditures, an international asset allocation puzzle, heuristics for alternative investments, and risk visualization. He has done significant research on portfolio management for taxable investors and is co ‑ author of Integrating Investments and the Tax Code. Other past research covered investment style, socially responsible investing, behavioral asset allocation, and institutional investment.
His service work and applied interests focus on tax-exempt investment issues at charities and pensions. He serves the community—particularly the Air Force community—via various investment committees supervising over $19 billion in pension, endowment and operational funds.
Dr. Jennings previously worked as a private equity analyst and sports valuation analyst at Arthur Andersen & Co., an international accounting firm. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Michigan. His doctorate is from the University of Michigan.
DFM, the USAF Academy's Department of Management, is akin to a undergraduate business school—employing 38 full time faculty and graduating approximately 200 lieutenants per year. The Department continually strives to be the Air Force's renowned center of management education and expertise. DFM is AACSB accredited.
