The Journal of Legal Studies - Volume 7

1996-1997

RETURN to the Journal of Legal Studies Home Page

This edition of the USAFA Journal of Legal Studies is dedicated to Brigadier General (Retired) Richard R. Lee and his wife, Elizabeth.

Upon his retirement, Brigadier General Lee had served thirty-eight years in the Air Force. Dick and Lib Lee spent the bulk of that time at the Air Force Academy where Dick taught for over twenty years.

The USAFA Journal of Legal Studies was born under General Lee’s leadership and is just one example of his lasting contributions to the Air Force and this institution. More information about General Lee’s contributions can be found in our first article. This article breaks with the Journal’s typically academic approach to provide a light, anecdotal biography of our founder, in the hope that the reader will really get to know Dick Lee.

Speaking for those of us in the Air Force Academy Department of Law, I can say how honored and privileged we were to serve under Brigadier General Lee. For the senior faculty at the Academy, Dick Lee was somewhat of an institution. For the younger officers, General Lee was more like a father than a boss. We hope that this close relationship continues in retirement.

Dick and Lib Lee will always be part of the DFL family.

- Patrick E. Tolan, Jr., Major, USAF
