We Have Two Types of "Hires":

1.  "Direct Hire":  Those officers with a History MA can PCS directly to USAFA.  Please apply using the procedures below, but you will also use the ADP and follow current AFPC guidance regarding USAFA hires. Refer to the Academic and Special Utilization Section under career planning on the AFPC website. Please note that you must have a relevant degree to apply for a direct hire position: History, Area Studies, etc. With very few exceptions, we do not consider hiring officers with MA's from non-resident degree programs.

**New Information as of 3 May 2011 for Fall 2012 grad school entry:

2.  "AFIT Hire": Sponsorship for a Masters degree
        * Highly Competitive
        * You should apply directly to DFH using the procedures below, but at the same time, you must obtain a release from AFPC. To do this:

A. Read the AAD/SPEED pamphlet for instructions

B. Complete the Form 3849, following instructions on the form and in the above pamphlet. It must be submitted to AFPC no later than 31 May 2011.

        * DFH will act as liaison with AFPC for selected candidates;           however, all applicants should follow current AFPC           guidance regarding USAFA hires. Refer to the Academic           and Special Utilization Section under career planning on the           AFPC website.

Application Procedures:

1. DFH Deadlines
    * Direct Hire
       ** Fall (Nov/Dec) RNLTD: 1 April of that year
       ** Summer (Jun/Jul) RNLTD: 1 September of year prior
    * AFIT Hire
       ** This varies, but paperwork (form 3849, above) requesting release should be complete around April of year prior to grad school entry.

2. Package should contain the following:
    * Cover Letter
    * Military Resume (see Tongue and Quill)
    * All OPRs and Training Reports
    * All Undergraduate and Graduate Transcripts (if applicable)
      ** Copies acceptable, official transcript not required
    * GRE Scores
      ** Copy of official GRE report acceptable
    * 1 to 3 Letters of Recommendation (e.g. Commanders,        Academic Advisors)
      ** Address to Col Mark K. Wells, ATTN: Personnel Officer
      ** Mail directly to DFH or include in application package
