Course Description:

 

 

Computer Networks. 3(1). Examination of long-haul and local area computer network and related security issues. Topics include OSI reference model, data transmission, circuit switching, packet switching, satellite networks, local area networks, network protocols, firewalls, cryptography, intrusion detection and information warfare. Final exam.

Comp Sci 210 or Comp Sci 211

Course   Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, students shall be able to:
  1. Understand each layer of the TCP/IP reference model.
  2. Understand the important protocols at each layer of the TCP/IP reference model.
  3. Understand key internetworking concept such as routing, switching, bridging, and virtual LANs.
  4. Understand fundamental telecommunications concepts.
  5. Understand the basic concept of cryptography, authentication protocols, and communications security.
  6. Implement a simple TCP/IP network.
  7. Understand the ethical and professional implications of computer networks.
