Information Storage and Retrieval. 3(1). Introduction to the basic concepts of database and information storage systems. Topics include data models, database design theory, database performance, transaction processing, web-database interaction, Compression, techniques for handling large volumes of data, and contemporary database issues. Hands-on projects emphasize basic database and information storage and retrieval techniques. Final Exam.

Course Objectives: |
Upon completion of the course, students shall be able to:
- Demonstrate basic working knowledge of DBMS concepts
- Design and implement web-based applications using databases
- Understand the relational model
- Use fundamental SQL concepts to formulate database queries
- Design and implement a database system using Microsoft Access
- Normalize a relational database to at least 3NF
- Analyze the factors affecting database performance
- Analyze social and ethical implications of databases
- Be familiar with database topics of current interest
