The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DFCE) seeks instructors in Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Geotechnical Engineering. All of our military faculty hold a Master’s or Doctoral Degree in one of those disciplines. Each year we accept applications for “direct hires,” which are officers who already hold a MS or PhD degree and want to join the faculty. We look for the best overall candidates and do not target a specific discipline each year.

Requirements for Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Military Faculty Positions
Military personnel pursuing a Direct Hire position should have:
- Updated Airman Development Plan
- Graduate degree in Civil (Geotechnical, Structural, or Construction) or Environmental Engineering
- 4-10 years commissioned active duty time
Competitive military applicants have:
- Two or more operational assignments
- One or more short tours
- Strong, promotable record
- Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills
- Solid academic record (typically 3.0 GPA or better)
- FE or PE
USAFA Faculty Pipeline packages
AFPC dictates the timeline for application packages, but the application deadline is usually in the summer, selections made in the fall, with PCSs to USAFA occurring the following summer.
Remain vigilant for AMS Robot emails or DCO meetings about USAFA faculty assignments or consult the AFPC CE Assignments officer for application package requirements and submission information (email@example.com, DSN 665-3452 or (210) 565-3452). Typically a cover letter, letters of recommendation, academic transcripts, and GRE scores are required.
