All sponsorees are expected to return to the Academy to teach.

Sponsorship Programs
Sponsorship for a Masters degree is typically for 1 to 1.5 years - normally 1 year is allotted, but the time may be extended depending on the degree, prerequisites, and undergraduate courses.

PhDs (including D.E. programs) are 3 years - PhD sponsorships are usually awarded to those at USAFA who have proven their academic and leadership capabilities and are being developed for senior positions in the Department.
 

Number of Slots
Each year DFCE has approximately 6 man-years to send potential instructors to school through the AFIT/CI program.  DFCE ideally will send 1 PhD/DE and 3 MS/ME candidates per year.

Schools
The choice is up to you, with some constraints. The school must be willing to get you through their program in your time allotted, must be accredited, offer the courses we require for your area of study, and have an annual cost of $19,000 or less. Many state schools offer in-state rates to military.
Some of the schools attended by our sponsored faculty members are Texas A&M, Illinois, Auburn, Purdue, Penn St, Arizona St, Colorado, Colorado St, Virginia Tech, Maine, Washington, Michigan St, Florida, Minnesota, and Cal Berkeley.

What are the Academic Requirements?
AFIT minimum requirements for advanced degree sponsorship in CE:
- GRE verbal 500, quantitative 600
- GPA 2.8 major, math, & overall

How do I apply?

Applications for advanced degree sponsorship are due to DFCE by the end of July for the following summer school start.
