Visiting Professor Position

The Department of Chemistry invites faculty who are US citizens and eligible for a sabbatical to apply for the opportunity to teach with us at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.  The position runs from approximately May - July each year. Tour lengths exceeding one year are possible. The United States Air Force Acdemy, located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is an undergraduate institution which awards the Bachelor of Science degree as part of its mission to inspire and develop outstanding young men and women to become Air force officers with knowledge, character, and discipline. The purpose of the Visiting Faculty Program is to supplement the Air Force Academy faculty by providing visiting civilian educators from institutions of higher education. Vising faculty members will be temporarily detailed to the Federal government, but will remain employees of their instituion of higher education. Our Visiting Professor Program reimburses the home institution for salary and benefits plus moving expenses to and from Colorado Springs.  There is also the possibility of living on the Air Force Academy, with rentals available at local market rates.  We would expect the successful applicant to teach in our core chemistry course as well as in an advanced course in their specialty.  Our department is ACS certified and offer programs in chemistry, materials chemistry, and biochemistry and was the first in the nation to have approved programs in biochemistry and materials chemistry.  Preference will be given to applicants who specialize in materials chemistry or organic chemistry, though all applicants will be considered.  Our department’s chemical instrumentation rivals that of many graduate institutions and there is an opportunity to do research with cadets through our Chemistry Research Center.  Interested individuals can learn more about our Visiting Professor Program and our department by exploring this website.  Feel free to direct questions and letters of interest directly to the Chemistry Department Deputy Head at 719-333-4831 or CLICK HERE to send an e-mail.  Those who are interested in a visiting professor position in subsequent years beyond the 2013-2014 academic year are also welcome to express an interest since this position is an annual requirement and we are more than willing to work appointments several years in advance.

Applications for this position are needed as soon as possible each year but preferably by September 15th.
