Faculty Opportunities at the Air Force Academy
The United States Air Force Academy, located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is an undergraduate institution which awards the Bachelor of Science degree as part of its mission to inspire and develop outstanding young men and women to become Air Force officers with knowledge, character, and discipline. Successful faculty candidates are those who can contribute to this mission by interacting with cadets, both in and out of the classroom, as instructors and mentors. Successful faculty candidates are those with strong interests and experience in teaching, developing undergraduate courses, using computers and advanced technology to enhance education, and who possess the potential for sustained intellectual contributions. The Academy faculty is an integrated group of military and civilian educators. Essential qualities expected of every faculty member include the personal attributes of integrity, industry, cooperation, initiative, and breadth of intellectual interests. The ability to accommodate a service academy environment is essential. The student body consists of approximately 4000 men and women representing every state and several foreign countries. In addition to a core curriculum of academic and professional courses, majors are offered in 30 academic disciplines.

Faculty Opportunities at the Air Force Academy Preparatory School
The Academy Preparatory School, better known as the "Prep School," is designed to academically, physically and militarily prepare qualified young men and women to enter the U.S. Air Force Academy. The Prep School is located on the Academy grounds, and the ten-month program provides intensive academic preparation to make selected applicants more competitive for entrance into the Academy. Approximately 240 students between 17 and 22 years old begin the program in late July. The Prep School's program emphasizes the same four areas as the Academy - academic, military, athletic and character development. The curriculum includes math, English and general sciences. Students at the Prep School are addressed as "cadet candidates." A staff of about 45 officers, NCOs and civilians teach, coach, and train these cadet candidates with a view to their success in all four areas of the Prep School's mission. 24 of the staff are full-time faculty. The civilian instructors have extensive prior experience in the classroom, almost all with master's degrees; military educators are degreed in specialties compatible with the three major disciplines of English, Mathematics (through calculus), and Chemistry.
