ballard Colonel Timothy D. Ballard hales from Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska and is the Commander, 10th Medical Group, United States Air Force Academy, Colorado. As the USAFA Command Surgeon and Senior Market Manager for the Colorado Springs Multiservice Market, Col Ballard ensures healthcare for 27,000 active duty, retirees and their families in addition to 4,500 cadets and future leaders of the USAF. He oversees regional medical care for over 145,000 eligible beneficiaries and ensures deployment preparedness of 700 medics.

Col Ballard entered the Air Force in July 1984 as a cadet at the US Air Force Academy and graduated with a degree in Biology in 1988. In 1992, he graduated from medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. This was followed by the completion of a 3-year residency in Family Practice at Travis AFB, CA in 1995.

His first operational assignment was as a family physician at Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany. During this tour, he completed the Aerospace Medicine Primary course at Brooks AFB, TX and received his flight surgeon wings in May 1996. In August 1997, he was assigned to the 11th Medical Group, Bolling AFB, DC as a family physician and subsequently as the base flight surgeon. After 15 months, he was transferred to the Pentagon flight medicine clinic as Chief,
clinical services. During this tour, he provided medical care for the Offices of the Secretary of Defense and Joint Staff and also became the personal physician to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. From 2001-2004, he was then assigned to Mountain Home AFB where he supported Operations Brightstar, Noble Eagle, Maple Flag, and Southern Watch. He also deployed to Prince Sultan AB, KSA during Operation Enduring Freedom as the Chief of Flight Medicine. In August 2004, he was assigned as Chief, Aeromedical Services (SGP) and Flight Medicine Flight Commander at Langley AFB, VA. He was then selected for AFIT training and attended the University of Cincinnati where he completed his second residency in Occupational Medicine. In August 2008, he assumed command of the 3rd AMDS, which later became the 673rd AMDS as part of Joint Basing reorganization.

As a senior flight surgeon, Col Ballard has over 700 flying hours in various aircraft including the C-12, C-17, C-130, C-21, C-32, F-15, F-16, and KC-135. He is board certified in Family Practice (1995) and Occupational Medicine (2008) and currently maintains his Ohio medical licensure.
